Patterned Imprinted Concrete
Patterned Imprinted Concrete (PIC) is an innovative skilled technique. This method uses colours and patterns to decorate concrete driveways, patios, and paths. This creates the authentic look of stone, slate, or timber. We avoid the high costs associated with natural products.
Minimal Maintenance
Patterned concrete offers a unique product with minimal maintenance. It performs well over other products like flagstones or tarmac. There are many issues that can be fixed by having a dolomite foundation and four inches of fibre reinforced cement. These issues include sinking and weeds as well as moss. Alternative products are available. You will also encounter problems with block paving, woodrot, and pest control when you have wooden decked patio areas.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?
Simply put, patterned concrete is also known as stamped concrete. It involves pouring concrete onto a sub-base and then applying a color followed by a hardener. This is quite different to traditional concreting, where you used blocks to create your finished.
After the concrete has cured, the pattern can be applied. There are many options for prints to choose from, including brickwork, texture stone, and ashlar stones. You can add curb appeal to your home by using patterned concrete, especially for driveway lining.
Good quality print
It is important to assess the quality of the printed concrete. To properly lay fresh concrete, you need to take extreme care, be patient, and dedicate your time. If the concrete forms inconsistently, it can lead to a weak floor.
A contractor might use 6-8 rigid matsa and 1 flexible mat to print a set. Six mats are needed to cover the narrowest section on the driveway. The flexible mats, however, can be used to access and print areas where rigid mats won’t.
The majority of printing mats come in 600 x 600mm. But, there is some flexibility with matt size. All you have to do is decide how big you want them and then find the best prices.
Colour Consistency
To ensure that your flooring is the right colour, you need to be aware of how imprinted concrete will look. The main components of patterned concrete are colour surface hardener as well as antique release agents.
A poor appearance will be caused by a poorly applied colour surface hardener or a lack of enough. This is especially true for larger commercial jobs like retail shop flooring.
It will take multiple concrete deliveries to complete large commercial jobs. This will cause slight colour variations in the concrete mixes. The surface hardener matches the colours when they are applied. This is ideal if you have a larger job that takes more than a few hours to complete.
Ensuring Long-Term Durability
To ensure that the concrete floor is durable, the sub-stone foundation must be mixed with the ground below it. This could be soil or stone.
The concrete mix used also plays an important role in ensuring that the structural integrity of the concrete floor will last for many years.
This is especially true in high-traffic areas like driveways, multi-storey parking lots, and warehouses where machinery is used daily.
Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking
Concrete patterned for driveways must contain at least 300kgs per cubic metre.
For colder weather, you’ll need more, approximately 350-380kg.
You can also add an air entertainment agent to improve the floor’s durability.
Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results
You can enhance the overall appearance of patterned cement by applying an acrylic sealant that is solvent-based (only once dry). Water-based acrylics will cause more problems, so be careful with these for patterned concrete.
You can also apply the sealant once every four years to maintain the appearance and quality of your patterned concrete.
It isn’t mandatory but it will help keep your driveway, or wherever we have patterned concrete installed, looking amazing for many years.
