ToggleWhat is a Dropped Kerb at Southwell?
Consider that your council will need notification of any changes made to your driveway/parking area when designing it. The dropped kerb, which is the low access point connecting your driveway to the highway, allows your vehicle safely to enter and leave the road. These must be built in accordance with the building standards of your local council by certified contractors.
You will also need contractors who are registered on the Street Works Qualification Register as required by the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991). They should also have the right liability coverage. They must have the Street works permits required and the insurance coverage.
If the driveway has an existing, dropped kerb line, and you are not changing it in any way, then there is no need to either install a new one, or apply for planning permission. If you’re planning on changing or creating a new access point in your parking area, you must obtain permission from the local authority.
I need my kerb to be lowered. Could you please help?
The first stage is to determine if you will require planning permission to lower your curb and to apply for highway excavation licensure. This applies to kerb extensions too. The local highways division will send an officer out to evaluate whether or not planning permission is needed. They will also determine if underground utility plans must be obtained from the relevant suppliers. Finally, they will decide whether or not the license will be granted. The entire application process takes approximately four to five weeks.
Once the excavation permit and any required planning permission are granted, work may be permitted to begin. If you don’t have an excavation permit and you allow work begin, the council may fine you retrospectively. It is important that this process is handled by an experienced contractor.
What is the purpose of a dropped Kerb?
Dropped Kerbs can prevent cars parking too close to driveways and walkways. They can also be used to provide wheelchair access. Since 2010, they have been recommended by England’s Department of Transport. They are loved by homeowners and landowners. Councils also use them to stop cars from blocking driveways and pavements. Does a Dropped Kerb Add Value?
What is it worth to replace a broken kerb?
The job’s complexity and location will affect the cost of having a dropkerb installed. As an example, a single opening of approximately 5 units will cost you around £1400. Remember that this is a rough estimate. Other factors include the type and distance between the dropped and your property.
